Volleyball is played by:

1. Teams of twelve with six players on court rotating round the court to serve.

2. With teams of 4, 3 or 2 on court - juniors often play a form of volleyball called Mini Volleyball in 4v4, 3v3, 2v2 formats.

The beach game is usually played as 2v2 but can be played as 4v4.
The game is played:
1. Indoors in International, national, local and recreational competitions and tournaments.

2. As a sitting game for players with disability playing at local to internationsl level. At club level teams can be mixed gender and include able bodied players.

3. On sand - in urban settings where
sand is imported, by lakes or by the
sea - beach volleyball.

4. On grass - usually at summer
tournaments - grass volleyball.
Competition is usually in single sex teams but clubs are mostly mixed and mixed teams play at local league level and in tournaments.
Volleyball is played in five (indoor) or three (Beach) set games with each set played to 25 points except the last which is played to 15. Two clear points are needed to win the set.
Indoor court 18 x 9m divided by a net, 2.4m high for men and 2.24m for women (lower height for juniors). Beach court 16 x 8m. Sitting 10 x 6m net height 1.15m for men, 1.05 for women
